AV RECEIVERS
AV Receivers can be described as the “heart” of a Home Theatre system. Both Picture and Sound all go through the AV Receiver for processing. At Big Picture People, we have selected brands that deliver outstanding performance across a wide range of price points while delivering great value. Renowned brands such as Yamaha, Denon, Integra and Anthem.

Key features to consider when choosing an AV Receiver for your Home Cinema system.
CHANNELS
5.1 Channel AV Receiver can run 5 speakers plus subwoofer.
7.1 Channel AV Receiver can run 7 speakers plus subwoofer.
9.1 Channel AV Receiver can run 9 speakers plus subwoofer.
More channels allow for more advanced formats such as Dolby Atmos, or the option to have a second zone for music in another room. However, more channels mean more internal amplifiers, so a seven-channel AV Receiver will cost more than a five-channel AV Receiver.
WATTS/POWER
Audio Power is measured in Watts. While more Watts typically translates to louder sound, more power also allows the amplifier to produce dynamic with less effort resulting in clearer sound.
FORMATS
All AV Receivers feature Dolby Digital Surround, however, these days there are additional formats, such as Dolby Atmos which add another dimension to the surround sound stage… “height”. This allows for overhead sound FX, such as something swooping down from above. Other popular formats include DTS-X.
WIRELESS CAPABILITIES
Many AV Receivers can now stream music via formats such as Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify, Yamaha MusicCast, etc.
VOICE CONTROL
Many AV Receivers are now compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant devices.
ZONES
AV Receivers with more Channels usually can run separate audio simultaneously, such as music to another room or outdoor patio area.
